The government’s House Price Index (HPI) for the 12 months ending in June 1996, showed house prices rising fastest in the Rocky Mountain states and slowest in the Pacific Coast and Middle Atlantic regions. The HPI for the second quarter of 1996 was released today by the Office of the Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO). The HPI uses data obtained from home sales and refinancing appraisals to track movements of single-family house values at the state of regional level, and nationwide.
Note: FHFA publishes monthly and quarterly HPI reports. OFHEO, one of the predecessor agencies to FHFA, was responsible for publishing the HPI prior to the fall of 2008.
