The government's House Price Index (HPI) for the 12 months ending in March showed house prices rising fastest in the Rocky Mountain states and slowest in the Middle Atlantic and Pacific Coast regions. The HPI, containing movements of single-family house values obtained from home sales and refinancing appraisals for the 12-month period ended March 31, 1996, was released by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO).
Note: FHFA publishes monthly and quarterly HPI reports. OFHEO, one of the predecessor agencies to FHFA, was responsible for publishing the HPI prior to the fall of 2008.
