About FHFA

The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) is an independent agency established by the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HERA) and is responsible for the effective supervision, regulation, and housing mission oversight of the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac), and the Federal Home Loan Bank System, which includes the 11 Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLBanks) and the Office of Finance (OF). The Agency's mission is to ensure that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) and the FHLBanks (together, "the regulated entities") fulfill their mission by operating in a safe and sound manner to serve as a reliable source of liquidity and funding for housing finance and community investment. Since 2008, FHFA has also served as conservator of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

    FHFA Announces Conforming Loan Limit Values for 2026
    November 25, 2025
    U.S. Federal Housing (FHFA) today announced the conforming loan limit values (CLLs) for mortgages Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) will acquire in 2026. In most of the United States, the 2026 CLL value for one-unit properties will be $832,750, an increase of $26,250 from 2025.

    U.S. house prices rose 2.2 percent between the third quarter of 2024 and the third quarter of 2025, according to the U.S. Federal Housing (FHFA) House Price Index (FHFA HPI®). House prices for the third quarter of 2025 rose 0.2 percent compared to the second quarter of 2025. FHFA’s seasonally adjusted monthly index for September remained unchanged from August.

    U.S. Federal Housing Announces 2026 Multifamily Loan Purchase Caps for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

    U.S. Federal Housing announced today that the 2026 multifamily loan purchase caps for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) will be $88 billion for each Enterprise, for a combined total of $176 billion to support the multifamily market.
