We purchased a manufactured home in June 1997 due to the fact I was pregnant with twins. Our older home built in 1957 was under 800 square feet and barely fit three of us. As a carpenter and pregnant I was not able to realistically able to add on to our existing home for the same amount as we purchased our new home for. We had our home converted to real property. The manufacturer offered a reasonable foundation to place our home on poured in place. My biggest complaint is financing basically a CHATTEL loan was the best we could hope for. 10% interest ! Our home was placed on its new foundation and ready to occupy within three weeks. We still had landscaping and a deck with ramp to install but gave us the opportunity to be in our new home way sooner than a site built home also note our home was built inside a warehouse that is out of the elements. Also being pre-built fairly easy to get set and occupancy in 1/3 rd of the time of conventional building . I believe the industry has been unjustly targeted for mortgage lenders to take advantage of the family mostly working class who even then were working to make ends meet paycheck to paycheck. I am dissatisfied with the way our government has the ability to establish laws and then turn a blind eye to the actual people they supposedly represent. So in closing if you pass a law make sure it’s being enforced and protecting the people who actually elect YOU. Sincerely , Dawn Geddes thedawngeddes@gmail.com
