Video Shows How the FHFA House Price Index is Calculated

Every month, FHFA publishes a House Price Index (HPI) which measures the movement of prices for single-family homes in the United States.  The monthly reports include indexes for all nine census divisions and the U.S. as a whole.  Each quarter, FHFA publishes a more comprehensive report that includes indexes for the census divisions, all 50 states, and the District of Columbia, plus every Metropolitan Statistical Area in the U.S.

Whether interested in buying or selling a home, researching house price trends for school or business, or just curious about housing trends, the HPI can be a useful tool for the public.  To help you make the most of this resource, we've put together this short video which shows the basic methodology behind FHFA's HPI.
